Reviewing Summer House Cafe , Mumbai

Updated: Dec 5, 2019

Location – Todi Mills , Lower Parel, Mumbai

6th July 2017

Summer House Café actually belongs to the same owners of Summer House Delhi. Yes , going by current trends a lot of cool Delhi places are opening in Mumbai and Summer House Café is one of them.

Quick Summary

  1. It is among the many Lower Parel eateries but this one has a really vast menu that’s value for money.

  2. They have gigs and other interesting stuff through the week.

  3. A really huge place and it turns into a cool party place.

What To Eat

Any of the chef’s platters. All are great for the taste and portions.

Wood fired thin crust Pizzas. They are not made in electrical oven hence the taste is distinct.

What To Drink

Anything from their craft cocktails which are award winning and very unique.

We went to Summer House Café last week on a Wednesday night at around 7:30ish. They were having a private party. Ambiance of SHC is a funky and rugged. Huge ceiling height and sunroof windows. I’m sure , it must be very pretty during the day. It has got a very long bar. A stage area. Pool table and enough seating on the ground and upper level.

We were invited to review their menu. All credit to Chef Anant Morajkar’s personalized hospitality, we had a lovely experience. Here’s what we ate  –

Nachos with Salsa & Sour Cream  – Really huge portion. Can be shared among 3-4 people easily. Right amount of sour cream, liquid cheese , Beans , Tomatoes and Onions , loads of Jalapenos , Guacamole and tomato Salsa. We really loved it. We were done tasting it but my friend couldn’t help picking up a couple of nachos from it before the server took it away.

Stir fried Mushrooms – These were decent but by the time the dish was served , the mushrooms had gone cold. We didn’t enjoy it that much.

Chef’s Special Platters –

Hummus with Pita bread and Falafel – Pita Bread was soft and fluffy. Hummus had olive oil and diced olives in the centre.Falafels were also very crispy and beautifully cooked with all the sesame around it. The pickled veggies served along were too good !

American Veg Platter – It comprised of BBQ cottage cheese fingers with BBQ dip ( very smoky ) , Onion Rings ( perfectly crunchy )  , Tortilla Chips & Smoked Cheese bites ( more of cheese poppers ) Dips served along were BBQ dip , Salsa and Spicy Mayo.

Indian Veg Platter

Soya chaap ( they claim to bring it from Delhi ) , Pineapple Chaat & Char Grilled Paneer Skewers. Mint and Yogurt dip was amazing.

All the above are priced at 575++ , What you see in pictures is just a tasting portion. Actual serving portion is more.

MAINS

Udon Noodles – Spicy ramen with Shitake mushrooms and spring onions. I had featured it on my insta and you can have a look at it here.

Another one from @summerhousecafemumbai dinner. Udon Noodles that were served by chef @anantmorajkar were on point. For those who don't know Udon Noodles, these are Japanese thick wheat flour noodles made in a soupy preparation due to it's broth. Very subtle in flavours and a treat for the eyes. Hot bowl of Udon noodles is all you need on a rainy day ❤️ . . . thetalkingbeewordpress.wordpress.com #thetalkingbee #summerhousecafemumbai #japanese #udon #udonnoodles #globalcuisine #friday #weekendvibes #food #mumbaifoodie #foodofmumbai #thingstodomumbai #mumbaikar #foodgram #foodphotography #mobilephotography #yumm #nomnom #trelltale #trellfood #foodgameindia #like4follow #like4like #pictureoftheday #indianfoodbloggers #munbaifoodbloggers #foodporn #wheretoeatmumbai #instagood #foodtalkindia

Soya Kheema Pao – Served nice and hot. Pao was toasted nicely hence different than the usual pav.  Kheema was moderately spicy and very tasty.

We had two pizzas from their pizza section and both were really good. They have an authentic wood fired oven and hence they produce some really tasty thin crust pizzas.

Boconcini & fresh Basil Pizza (365++) – Fresh and very flavorful! Sun-dried and cherry tomatoes on it made it a yumm pizza.

This amazing Pizza from Summer House Cafe was had last night as a part of our review dinner. The head Chef Anant Morajkar made sure we got the best of food from their menu and a delightful experience. This is a really huge place that hosts gigs and performances on a regular basis. Having it's origins from Delhi this one's just 6-7 months old and here to stay. Blog post coming soon. . . . . thetalkingbeewordpress.wordpress.com #thetalkingbee #summerhousecafe #summerhousecafemumbai #pizzalove #margheritapizza #mumbaifoodie #foodofmumbai #thingstodomumbai #mumbaikar #foodgram #foodphotography #mobilephotography #yumm #nomnom #trelltale #trellfood #foodgameindia #like4follow #like4like #pictureoftheday #indianfoodbloggers #munbaifoodbloggers #foodporn #yummy #pictureoftheday #wheretoeatmumbai #instagood #foodtalkindia

Bell Pepper & Onion Pizza ( 385++)  – Nothing fancy. Simple ingredients and that’s what worked for us !

DESSERTS

Tiramisu – Oh, the beauty of the ingredients used! You have to eat this to know what I’m talking about. Totally worth it.

Ultimate Banoffee Pie – This really was ultimate. The right amount of bananas and the gooey caramel layers and the whipped cream. Kudos to the team !

For drinks, we picked up two from their Craft Cocktails. These are award winning cocktails and very very unique.

Hystrix – A vodka drink with kaffir lime , sweet lime and orange juice. Ideal for one of the nights when you want to try out different drinks.

Invented From Scratch : Another Vodka Drink but this one had a turmeric punch. Something different !

Sunil & Rehman were serving our table and they were very attentive. Also ever smiling.

In a nutshell , Summer House Café is one of the rare spaces with a luxury of a huge space , good music and an elaborate menu for both drinks and food. In spite of fusion food rocking the food scenes , they have stuck to basics and serve food that’s value for money. They have got everything covered and there wasn’t anything that we didn’t like.

Highly recommended !

VERDICT

Taste – 4.6 /5

Ambiance – 4.7 /5

Service –  5 /5

Value for money –4.2 /5
