Place – Peninsula Grand
Location – Sakinaka , Mumbai
29th September
Peninsula Grand is a four-star business hotel in the busy location of Sakinaka. It houses couple of restaurants. Their Peninsula Grand Restaurant is one of them. Known for their Indian/ Mughlai & Oriental preparations. Me and my sister went here last week. Very pleasant ambiance and subtle décor makes it a good fine dine restaurant.
It’s a spacious restaurant. Lately with pubs and similar concept Fine dine is kind of disappearing or not being much in demand. Peninsula Grand comes to rescue for such situations.
We were welcomed with – Thandai & A Jaljeera Refresher. Jaljeera drink deserves a special mention it was very tasty.
What we ate –
Starters
Tandoori Veg Platter – Really Huge. And looked very appetizing. It comprised of –
Naram Dil Kabab, Veg Seekh Kabab , Pahadi Cauliflower ,Tandoori Aloo ,Hara Bhara Kabab . Apart from Pahadi Cauliflower I pretty much liked everything. Especially Naram Dil Kebabs.
Crackling Spinach Cottage Cheese – This was the dish of the day for me as it was unique. Spinach is not a favourite vegetable to have really but it really was crackling. The oriental flavor of this dish gave a break to my palate and the crunch of spinach was awesome.
Mains –
Sabji Dobara – It was Sabji Two ways. But I didn’t quite like this combination.
Dal Makhani – A perfect 10 for this Dal Makhani. Rich and Thick.
Ghosht Banjara – A mutton preparation that was again a good dish.
For Desert we had their Combo of Ras Malai and Rabdi. Perfect thing to end that meal.
Paan Shot – After meal drink, Not my thing. Could be good if you’ve tried it before.
In my opinion the restaurant is really nice. Ambiance especially with live Gazals is very soothing for post work dinners. Food is also pretty good with taste. They have a number of dishes as far as their Indian & Oriental dishes are concerned. Very Very Pocket friendly.
Only Negative – Service. The Service needs to pull up their socks. The wait to get the next course was killing. It was almost killing our appetite. After almost half an hours break between dishes they would suddenly bring mountains of food which is an assault to the stomach. Timing or rather synchronization is what’s needed. The staff needs to be more attentive.
VERDICT
Taste – 4 /5
Ambiance – 4 /5
Service – 3 /5
Value for money – 4.5 /5
