Review : Lunch experience at Ekaa Mumbai

Updated: Feb 8, 2022

Location : Fort, Mumbai

Date : 4th Feb 2022

When I first heard about this restaurant it made me curious. I checked their page and social media and the first thing that showed there was 'Inception of interpreted cuisine inspired by ingredients, people and culture'. Interesting isn't it ?

Well reading that, made me even more curious about what that meant when it comes to a restaurant.

Brainchild of talented Chef Niyati Rao, who has worked at several renowned luxury restaurants, including a three michelin star restaurant in Copenhagen called Noma. Her connect with regional cuisine and varied Indian produce is what she wanted to be the hero of the restaurant.

We were invited for a lunch experience at #Ekaa for a blogger's table review.

Ekaa is located in one of the most iconic heritage buildings in South Bombay (Fort) which is Kitab Mahal. An open Kitchen and a Sunroof ensures there's enough sunlight entering this space making it bright yet cozy.

You will see the walls of it with shelves adorned with unique ingredients filled in the jars kept for fermenting. The whole point is to showcase the ingredients!

We were assisted by Mariella -the media manager and Shiv

We started our food tasting with the Tapas menu.

1. Savoury Churro with a Potato Silk Dip spiced with Smoked Thecha

2. Sourdough topped with Cauliflower Hummus and almonds.

3. Young Corn with Soy emulsion

We loved the unique combination and the spicy flavour that the techa brought to the dish. Also the young corn with soy emulsion was quite interesting.

From the A-la cart menu we had

1. Wheat flatbread topped with onion jam, smoked eggplant and whole barley. This was further garnished with microgreens.

2. Tapioca that was assembled right in front of us with Balsamic Kokum, mustard yogurt and spicy tapioca crisps.

The meal was washed down with mocktails, We would have loved to try some of their popular signature cocktails curated by the head mixologist - Jishnu A.J.

However, we had below mocktails-

  1. Earl Fizz - Earl Gray flush with guava juice and soda

Virgin G&T

3. Peach Sour- this was rather on a sweeter side.

We finished our meal with their dessert - After 8

Here is a quick video of the visit.
