Where to eat in Mahabalipuram

Updated: Feb 16

During our travel to Mahabalipuram in the month of Feb, we had a chance to relish on some local cuisine. Here are the reviews.

Adayar Anand Bhavan ( A2B )

Those who have been to #Chennai at least once will know this franchise for sure. Popular for their authentic Tamil Food, #A2B is a hands-down winner.

We had a plate of Steam Idli, Ghee Dosa, and Pongal Vada combo.

Pros - Food was very tasty. Especially the chutneys were amazing.

Cons – Very elaborate menu. Very few items available. Eg. They didn’t have curd rice. They didn’t serve tamarind rice etc.

Service was okayish. They were humble but just confused and all over the place.

Shri Anand Bhavan Mahabalipuram

I came across this in many travel blogs that I read. So had to give it a try. This is in the main street of #Mahabalipuram and again, serves good Tamil Food.

We went there twice during our one night stay at M’puram. We had a Deluxe Thali. Which comprised of Roti,Rice,Four Veggies,Sambar,Rasam,Curd,Chaas,Dessert. There were unlimited servings of all the dishes. Priced at approx. 200 Rs. was shareable by two people. Totally value for money!

For next day’s breakfast, we had Ghee Roast Dosa, Podi Idli and Pongal along with Filter coffee.

Pros - Food was very tasty. 5/5 for the taste, hygiene everything.

Cons – Again, very elaborate menu. A lot of items on the menu were not available. Sambar rice, Rasam rice, etc was straightaway said no for !

TTB rating – 4.5*

The Moonrakers

The place literally drew us to it by its #vibe. We were passing by and couldn’t stop ourselves from going there. Just the right kinda place for a pint of #beer or two.

They serves a variety of sea-food. Us, three out of four being vegetarians we opted for Fried Rice along with Manchurian gravy. Rice was decent. But the gravy was below average.

Our friend Amod is a non vegetarian and he had asked for a Butter Garlic Prawn. It was less buttery than expected. So we requested them for an extra portion of Garlic butter. Which they hesitated to provide in the beginning but we did manage to get some after approx. half an hour.

Nutella Chocolate Pancake was served which was more of a crepe.

Pros – Vibe. Vibe. Vibe. Its open air, terrace seating. Chilled out vibe!

Cons – Service was slow. Food was okay/ good.

TTB rating – 4*
