We all know how much we love Aloo tikkis ( Potato Patties) but at the same time we think at least once or twice how unhealthy those are ! Here is a recipe in which I have used Aloo but have reduced the portion of Aloo and added boiled black peas instead to make it slightly healthier. I have never seen nor tried this recipe anywhere before. This is something I experimented and turned out quite good. You can replace Black peas with Black chana or Whole Moong too.
Here is a quick recipe.
Soak 1 cup black peas overnight.( I had used leftover black peas which i reserved when I had made the curry earlier that weak.
Boil / Pressure cook black peas and about 3 medium sized potatoes.
Once cooled, mash potatoes.
Also roughly blend the black peas into the blender
In a mixing bowl - add 1 onion finely chopped, 1 green chilli finely chopped, mashed potato, black peas and a handful of roughly chopped coriander
Mix it well.
Now into this add the spices - 1 tbs coriander powder, 1tsp cumin powder, 1tsp kashmiri red chili powder, 1 tsp amchur powder or some lemon juice, a pinch of hing and ginger garlic paste as per your liking.( I added half tsp)
Once again mix it thoroughly and rest this for minimum 15-20 mins.
Now add salt as per taste and mix it once again.
To make tikkis / patties, grease your palms with some oil and make medium sized tikkis.
Pan fry these in a non stick pan with a drizzle of oil.
Serve it with any chutney of your choice.
